Sustainable Play Preschool will teach children about sustainability practices.
Australia is set to get its very first vegan preschool.
Called Sustainable Play Preschool, the early education center is located in New South Wales. It will teach children using a holistic approach to education and child development.
With sustainability at the forefront of its curriculum, the school will serve a vegan menu. “We’re proud of our Dietitian approved, 100 percent plant-based, rotating menu of nutritious goodness—ready to encourage children to try fruits and veggies with our chef’s creative twists,” a caption on the school’s Instagram page reads.
The vegan preschool will serve plant-based goodies for morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, and a late afternoon snack. Meal offerings include baked tofu macaroni and cheese, chickpea “tuna” sandwiches, nachos and bean chili, barbecue tofu, and pasta.
It will also serve a number of plant-based snacks, such as fruit platters and smoothies, muffins, fruit toast, and yogurt, among others.
Sustainable and Vegan Preschool
The vegan preschool’s goal is to encourage children to appreciate the environment. Trained educators will teach children about sustainable and conservationist practices using a play-based learning approach.
Children will be able to tend to the school’s garden, learning how to harvest various fruits and vegetables. They will also learn how to prepare and cook the plant-based food and how to compost the leftovers.
In addition to composting, some of Sustainable Play Preschool’s other eco-friendly initiatives include using rainwater tanks to reduce water usage and recycled water for the center’s vegetable garden. The school also features solar panels.
And in order to immerse children in nature, the school will also host field trips to local nature centers, farms, national parks, and reserves.
The vegan preschool opens in late summer or early autumn of 2021.
