American cardiologist Kim Allan Williams Sr. (born 1955), former president of the American College of Cardiology discusses the research on ketogenic (“keto”) diets. In a nutshell, he has concluded that the evidence is clear that animal-based ketogenic diets are very bad for your heart and cardiovascular system.
But he also discusses plant-based keto diets, and he says that the research so far suggests that if animal products are avoided, then a keto diet may not be so bad, suggesting that much of the harm of mainstream keto diets comes from the fact that they are typically so heavily based on the consumption of animal products.
