Top 10 Vegan and Animal Rights Documentaries

“Documentaries are a fantastic way to learn more about any given subject, and animal rights or vegan-based ones are no exceptions to that rule. There are so many documentaries to choose from when it comes to learning about animal rights or plant-based living, with many overlapping with environmentalism and health as well. Below we have chosen the top ten documentaries to watch–some of them focus on single issues, while others cover broad spectrums. What they all have in common is an overall impact in raising awareness and inspiring people to make changes.”

Top Documentary Films

“Since January 2007, TDF has been curating awesome documentaries and it’s been a host to a vibrant community of people who’re making this place even more interesting. Obviously the content here is created with a passion for documentary films and the site is a valuable resource for those with an interest in that particular genre. It also tries to help the independent documentary filmmakers to promote their films. TDF started as a simple one-man blog and to some extent it still is. However, at this point there are three moderators taking care of the community comment section and a few ghostwriters writing the synopses for the documentaries. In a relatively short period of time the site became very powerful alternative educational resource and a very busy place – thanks to the visitors (1.5 million people every month) who obviously like it. As of now there are more than 3,000 documentaries published on TDF (most of them are full length docs), organized in 25 different categories, searchable by keywords, sortable by rating, comments, and titles and most importantly open for discussion. We provide fresh new documentary every other day and most of the time we publish independent films, which in fact are the most shared, highest rated and most commented videos on the site.”

Top Down Policymaking

Book: “In his eye-opening work, Dye explodes the myth that public policy represents the “demands of the people” and that the making of public policy flows upward from the masses. In reality, Dye argues, public policy in America, as in all nations, reflects the values, interests, and preferences of a governing elite. Top Down Policymaking is a close examination of the process by which the nation’s elite goes about the task of making public policy. Focusing on the behind-the-scenes activities of money foundations, policy planning organizations, think tanks, political campaign contributors, special-interest groups, lobbyists, law firms, influence-peddlers, and the national news media, Dye concludes that public policy is made from the top down.”

Toward a True Kinship of Faiths: How the World’s Religions Can Come Together

Book: “‌In perhaps his most important book, the Dalai Lama shares his hopeful yet realistic views on how humanity must step into the future. In our daily lives today no one is untouched by what happens in the rest of the world. New technology, environmental problems, economic gain and loss, nuclear weapons, and instant communication have all created unprecedented familiarity among the world’s many cultures. With this historic development, the Dalai Lama understands that the essential task of humanity in the twenty-first century is to cultivate peaceful coexistence…In Toward a True Kinship of Faiths, the Dalai Lama also explores where differences between religions can be genuinely appreciated instead of becoming sources of conflict. Creating genuine harmony does not depend on accepting that all religions are fundamentally the same or that they lead to the same place. Many fear that recognizing the value of another faith is incompatible with having devotion to the truth of one’s own. Nevertheless, the Dalai Lama shows how a sincere believer can, with integrity, be a pluralist in relation to other religions without compromising commitment to the essence of the doctrinal teachings of their own faith. An issue of central importance for the Dalai Lama personally and for the entire world in general, Toward a True Kinship of Faiths offers a hopeful yet realistic look at how humanity must step into the future. “

Towards Common Ground: Permaculture and the Vegan Way

“Some of the online responses to my recently published Vegan Book of Permaculture have highlighted a polarity that exists between vegans and those who use animal products or integrate animals into their systems. Whilst I think most of the time both sides of the debate co-exist (reasonably) happily together, it’s an emotive topic, and when it does come to the surface can lead to raised passions, often resulting in hurt all round. This article is an acknowledgement of this divide, and hopefully moves towards a more positive and constructive outcome arising from the compost of the anger and miscommunication that can occur.”

Toxic Sludge Is Good For You: The Public Relations Industry Unspun (2002)

“While advertising is the visible component of the corporate system, perhaps even more important and pervasive is its invisible partner, the public relations industry. This video illuminates this hidden sphere of our culture and examines the way in which the management of “the public mind” has become central to how our democracy is controlled by political and economic elites. Toxic Sludge Is Good For You illustrates how much of what we think of as independent, unbiased news and information has its origins in the boardrooms of the public relations companies. PR critics include PR Watch founder John Stauber, cultural scholars Mark Crispin Miller and Stuart Ewen. Toxic Sludge Is Good For You tracks the development of the PR industry from early efforts to win popular American support for World War I to the role of crisis management in controlling the damage to corporate image. The video analyzes the tools public relations professionals use to shift our perceptions including a look at the coordinated PR campaign to slip genetically engineered produce past public scrutiny. Toxic Sludge Is Good For You urges viewers to question the experts and follow the money back to the public relations industry to challenge its hold on democracy.”
