Nutrition Facts

“Whenever there is a new drug or surgical procedure, you can be assured that you or your doctor will probably hear about it because there’s a corporate budget driving its promotion. But what about advances in the field of nutrition? The reason we don’t see ads on TV for broccoli is the same reason groundbreaking research on the power of foods and eating patterns to affect our health and longevity gets lost and buried in the medical literature–there’s no profit motive. It may not make anyone money, but what if our lives would profit?”

The resulting crisis has become the catalyst for a profound transformation: millions of people are deciding that enough is enough — the time has come to create a new world, a world that works for all life.”

OffGuardian

“OffGuardian is the creation of people from different parts of the world committed to the original vision which drew us together on The Guardian‘s CiF pages…Tired of being censored by our beloved, once-upon-a-time left-of-centre newspaper, in February 2015 we decided to create our own platform for airing our unacceptable opinions. If you’re also sick of being stifled, moderated, slandered as ‘Putinbots’ or worse, and censored to oblivion on any of the Readers’ Comments sections of our mainstream press, come and tell us about it.”

Olkiluoto.Info

“The nuclear reactor now under construction in Olkiluoto, Finland was supposed to be a shiny showcase for the nuclear industry. Environmentalists warned about the hasty licensing procedure and inadequate resources for quality control. The project had been going on for less than a year when the first scandals surfaced.”

On the Duty of Civil Disobedience

Book: “As relevant today as when it was first written, Thoreau’s lucidly and passionately argued essay is a blow against the petty tyrannies of government and those who would seek to control us, manipulate us and monitor our e-mails and tweets. This is a classic text for all those concerned with the increasing power of the multi-national corporations and the shady dealings justified by neo-liberalism.”

One Step for Animals

“In short, One Step works to reduce the number of animals suffering as much as possible. Five hard facts drive One Step: 1. The vast majority of land animals who suffer in the United States today are birds. 2. Almost every argument for vegetarianism or veganism applies much more to avoiding red meat than birds – environmental and health arguments especially. 3. It takes more than 200 chickens to provide the same number of meals as one cow. 4. While beef consumption has fallen over the decades, chicken consumption has risen significantly. After a few years of decline, per capita consumption of animals in the US is currently at an all-time high and continuing to move higher, despite all advocacy efforts. (See graph below.) That means the average person in the US is causing more suffering than ever before. 5.The vast majority of individuals (~80%) who go vegetarian or vegan go back to eating animals, becoming active advocates against a compassionate diet. “

One Voice

“There may be no fighting but there is one fight and that is against violence, One Voice acts to reverse it wherever it develops and on whoever the victim is. It defends animal and planetary ethics. It fights for all sentient beings, for the recognition of the status of animal personhood and the “link” between violence to animals and humans.
One Voice, law association 1908, was created by Muriel Arnal in 1995. It operates in France and in the world for the respect of life in all its forms and denounces both animal exploitation and its consequences ethically, environmentally and healthily. It develops campaigns of lobbying and sensitization relying in particular on the work from investigations by its investigators and reports from experts. It works with international NGOs, sanctuaries and shelters around the world where its actions are useful.”

One World Now: The Ethics of Globalization

Book: “One World Now seamlessly integrates major developments of the past decade into Peter Singer’s classic text on the ethics of globalization, One World. Singer, often described as the world’s most influential philosopher, here addresses such essential concerns as climate change, economic globalization, foreign aid, human rights, immigration, and the responsibility to protect people from genocide and crimes against humanity, whatever country they may be in. Every issue is considered from an ethical perspective. This thoughtful and important study poses bold challenges to narrow nationalistic views and offers valuable alternatives to the state-centric approach that continues to dominate ethics and international theory. Singer argues powerfully that we cannot solve the world’s problems at a national level, and shows how we should build on developments that are already transcending national differences. This is an instructive and necessary work that confronts head-on both the perils and the potentials inherent in globalization.”
