Ireland Will Ban Fur Farms, Saving Thousands of Minks!

Minks are the most common animals to be farmed for fur. Unfortunately, they are subjected to terrifying lives of misery. But fortunately, people are realizing that such cruelty cannot go on. The Czech Republic banned fur farms, Los Angeles banned fur, and big fashion houses like Coach and Chanel have also gone fur free! Other places that have put fur bans into place include San Francisco, India, Sao Paolo, and more. Now, Ireland is joining the list!

Canada’s House of Commons Has Declared a National Climate Emergency

OTTAWA – The House of Commons has passed a motion declaring a national climate emergency, and supporting Canada’s commitment to meet the Paris Agreement emissions targets. Conservative MPs voted against the motion, but it still passed 186-63 with the support of the Liberals, New Democrats, Bloc Quebecois and Green MPs. The motion was was put forward by Environment and Climate Change Minister Catherine McKenna.

Canada Just Banned Ocean Drilling and Mining to Protect Marine Life

Canada has banned ocean drilling and mining in marine protected areas along the coast. According to Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the new marine protected areas will function like national parks of the sea. Drilling, mining, dumping, and bottom trawling — an industrial fishing method where a large net with heavy weights is dragged along the seabed — will all be prohibited.

Bavarians Vote to Stop Extinction

Bavarians will implement a sweeping set of conservation measures, including: (1) Setting aside 13% of state land in special ecological zones, inclusive of ecosystem infrastructure of hedgerows, meadows, and wetlands  (2) Organic agriculture must be practiced in 1/3 of Bavarian farmland, as well as cutting out fertilizers on all state-owned farms to reduce nitrogen pollution (3) Protection of wetlands, waterways, and threatened insect populations by eliminating insecticides as much as possible.

New York City to Cut Meat Consumption by 50%

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced today a plan to slash greenhouse gases by phasing out the purchase of processed meat and reducing beef purchases by 50 percent. The actions are part of the city’s own “Green New Deal” to attack the issue of global warming from all fronts in order to reduce emissions. The plan, laid out in “OneNYC 2050,” will ensure that NYC adheres to the Paris Agreement.
